Below are a few simple steps to help prolong the life of your camera gear.

Once you have completed you diving for the day, or need to remove the camera to get the the images, it is a good idea to do the below first:

  •  Fill a tub, sink or bucket with warm water and let it sit for 15 minutes;
  • dunk the equipment in and out of the water;
  • play with and move all the controls underwater to ensure all salt and sand etc is removed from the shafts;
  • use a clean dry towel to mop up as much of the water off the housing, then stand in a cool dry place for a few hours to ensure the housing is dry.   It sometimes help to rotate the housing and let it sit at multiple angels to let the water drain from all the different angles;
  • when you do open the housing, have a dry towel handy, to mop any water off the camera (there should not be any if you did the above, but have the towel ready in case);
  • remove all the port and body o-rings and sit them aside till the next dive; and
  • have a look for any signs of moisture inside the housing and on the control shaft where they come into the housing.
